COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Forget what you think you know about watching movies! Film Studies is a course designed to change the way you think, see and maybe even feel about motion pictures. We will explore a variety of topics related to filmmaking and conduct critical analysis of myriad film genres. Somewhere along the way, you’ll probably learn lessons about history, science, math, literature, and, more importantly, LIFE! May your movie-going experience NEVER be the same!

WHAT YOU NEED:
  1. A sturdy folder with looseleaf paper.
  2. A pencil and a blue or black pen.
  3. Your Ipad.
  4. An open mind.
  5. A good attitude.

WHAT WE’LL WATCH:
Nothing! We don’t “watch” movies in this class!! We will, however, analyze and EXPLORE a number of films from different genres: science-fiction, drama, wu xia, and who knows what else?

Special Notes:
As mentioned, this is not a “put on a movie & take a nap” class. You are expected to focus, pay attention, give feedback, participate and ENGAGE in the learning process! We will have projects, activities, assignments and quizzes all related to our films. So, IF YOU SNOOZE, YOU LOSE! Make sure all you do is “win, win, win”, ok?

*Makeup work: I can’t always “loan” films for out of class viewing. You can rent a film, if available or, you have the option to come Tuesday afternoon from 3:15-3:40 to watch a portion of the film you missed. Notes are YOUR responsibility. Get them from a classmate and check the website for other information.
