CINDER COPY GUIDE
Name articles as follows: 0902football (put the publication date and the subject).

DO NOT NAME YOUR ARTICLE SOMETHING STUPID! NAME IT WITH PUB DATE AND STORY TOPIC!

FOR THE DRAFT:

Step 1: Type your article in Text Edit on a Mac (do NOT type on a PC at home!). DO NOT DOUBLE SPACE. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT TABS. READ YOUR ARTICLE OUT LOUD, LINE BY LINE. HAVE SOMEONE ELSE READ IT, TOO.

Step 2: Save your article in the Cinder folder on the desktop AND on a GREEN ROUGH jump drive (these are located in CINDER OFFICE).

Step 3: Print a hard copy of your article. Be sure to include a sample headline and your byline. You will have to use a computer that is connected to a printer so you may need a jump drive to do that. Do not print in 20 pt. type, please!

Step 4: Turn in the hard copy on the draft deadline STAPLED WITH YOUR ASM TRACKING SHEET ON TOP. You should place it in the DRAFT box until the editors are ready to go over it with you. THEY WILL SIGN OFF ON YOUR ASM.

FOR CORRECTIONS/FINAL COPY:

Step 1: After proofing, you should open your article from the desktop folder and make corrections. Use your proofed hard copy as a guide. HAVE SOMEONE ELSE DOUBLE CHECK YOU! LET ADVISER SEE IT, TOO.

Step 2: Re-save your article on your computer (OVERWRITE THE OLD FILE!) AND SAVE IT ON THE FINALS FLASH DRIVE.

Step 3: Make SURE that you have properly saved your article and that it shows up on THE FINAL FLASH DRIVE properly!

Step 4: LET MANAGING EDITOR KNOW YOUR FINAL ARTICLE HAS BEEN SAVED.

Step 5: PUT YOUR ROUGH DRAFT AND ASM SHEET IN THE BOX IN THE CINDER OFFICE. NEVER THROW THESE AWAY!

If some of these steps seem redundant, they ARE! You will love them once you accidentally delete an article, though! :)
